WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are searching for the driver responsible for hitting a person riding a bike early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the cyclist was hit by an 18-wheeler truck around 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of Carolina Beach Rd. and Raleigh St.

They say Gilberto Acosta, 36, was riding his bike on Carolina Beach Road when he was hit by the truck and knocked off his bike.

According to police, the truck kept going north on Carolina Beach Road and never stopped.

Police said witnesses came to the aid of the cyclist and called 911. Acosta was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

According to officials, the cab of the 18-wheeler truck was green with no tag or logos on the body of the truck.
