COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A jury in Columbus County found Marquice Antone guilty Monday of first degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection to the shooting death of Keith Gachett in 2012. Tuesday he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

According to the authorities, Gachett was shot in the head inside his home on Palmetto Bay Road, near Hallsboro, in April 2012.

Gachett‘s wife, Wanda Gachett said in a previous report she last saw her husband alive when she left for work. When she returned home, she found him lying dead in their family room.

Since Antone was under the age of 18 at the time of the offense, the court had the discretion to impose a life sentence in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years, according to the District Attorney's Office.

DA's Office said Tuesday, however, Antone was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
