WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A dispute between rival gangs has been the cause of a string of violent incidents, according to WPD Deputy Police Chief Mitch Cunningham.

Cunningham said a dispute between the Double II Blood Gang and the Billie gang has fueled violent skirmishes, including a shooting last Friday night.

Members of one gang were having a get-together on Prices Lane when members of the rival gang attacked. Multiple people were injured in that shooting incident.

"The police department is very singularly focused on gang violence, and a lot of efforts are being made to address these problems," Cunningham explained.

Cunningham said a fight can be fueled by things as trivial as Facebook posts or serious matters like drug deals.

Additionally, the deputy chief explained that suspects Adrian and Antonio Point are associated with the Double II Bloods. The brothers are wanted by police in connection to a stabbing earlier this month where a third Point brother was arrested and charged.

As the violence continues, Cunningham will continue to combat the gangs.

"We've developed gang units. We've put together resources in the police department that are better positioned to respond to this and we have more and more strategies that are coming," Cunningham said.

The Wilmington Police Department is asking anyone with information related to the suspects to contact them.
