BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Elizabethtown Police Department arrested a man Friday morning who was wanted in connection to attempted murder.

According to Chief Robert L. Kinlaw, an officer stopped Saquon Covington around 10:45 a.m. in Elizabethtown. Police said he was wanted in connection to a shooting incident that happened Jan. 18, 2014.

Kinlaw said officers responded to a shots fired call in January and arrested Covington at that time for carrying a concealed weapon.

It wasn't until Covington bonded out of jail that officials learned a victim had been taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound from the shooting incident. Officers then obtained an attempted murder warrant and had been searching for Covington since that night.

Covington is being held in lieu of a $1,010,000 bond.
