WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wilmington Police Department is investigating a call that was made Sunday afternoon regarding an "unknown substance."

According to officials, several homes were evacuated Sunday in the area around 5120 Lamp Post Circle off Lullwater Drive for a possible gas leak.

Officials found the unit in question, opened it and found nothing inside. Crews also didn't find anything when they monitored the air.

Battalion Chief Time Smith of the Wilmington Fire Department said a woman had bought gas because she was tired of all the burglaries and alarms in the area. Smith explained she claimed she was going to kill the "next person who tried something."

Police have not been able to locate the person who made the threats on the 911 call at this time. Officials broke down the door of the home where they thought they were coming from, but found no signs of suspicious activity.
