Wilmington, NC – Wilmington Hammerheads FC hosted the lone home match of their preseason schedule tonight at Legion Stadium versus the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks. Hammerheads forward Cody Arnoux and midfielder Steven Miller led the team to a 2-0 victory of the Seahawks.
The Seahawks started with an opportunity in the box in the opening minutes, but the Hammerheads quickly followed with a header by forward Mickael Oliveira in the 13th minute that was within reach of the crossbar.
Hammerheads goalkeeper Quillan Roberts kept the Seahawks to a 2-0 deficit during the match, shutting down all 10 shots on goal. Seahawks midfielder David Sizemore had a close encounter with Roberts on the line in the 22nd minute, but was denied the opportunity to finish.
The first goal of the match for the Hammerheads came from forward Cody Arnoux in the 61st minute off an assist by midfielder Paul Nicholson. Arnoux was quick to follow with another attempt after the ball was put back into play at midfield, taking advantage of a Hammerheads steal and racing down the sideline for a cross into the box ending in a save by Seahawks goalkeeper Sean Melvin.
Midfielder Steven Miller scored the second goal of the match in the 71st minute off an assist by Samuel Ochoa, a Hammerheads trialist.
Wilmington Hammerheads FC kick off their 2014 USL PRO regular season on Saturday, April 7 at Legion Stadium versus the Harrisburg City Islanders.
