NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Saturday was a special day for members of the military as Fort Fisher celebrated National Medal of Honor Day -- recognizing the 19 Medal of Honor recipients in North Carolina.
The historic site had a program to talk about the 69 recipients from the 1865 battle as well as the three recipients that are from New Hanover County.
A war re-enactor showed Fort Fisher visitors different ammunition used during the Civil War.
They also gave a presentation about the history of the Medal of Honor and why it's so significant.
