WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Officers with the Wilmington Police Department are searching for a teen who led them on a high speed chase Saturday. They believe he could be linked to a shooting that happened on Market Street the same day.

According to officials, arrest warrants have been issued for 18-year-old Deshaun Clarida, a validated gang member in Wilmington.

Clarida is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, felony speeding to elude arrest, driving without a license, and hit and run.

Officers were called to respond to reports of shots fired around 4 p.m. Saturday in the area of Covil Ave. and Market St. They found an unoccupied vehicle with bullet holes in the parking lot of Dr. Stylez when they reached the scene.

Witnesses told police a grey Dodge Ram was involved in the shooting.

According to police, an officer spotted a truck matching the description leaving the area of Rankin Terrace and learned it had fake license plates.

Clarida is accused of taking police on a high speed chase on Market Street. A short time later, the truck was found crashed into a chain link fence at Hurst Street and Maides Ave. Police say Clarida had run away.

Officers found ammunition inside the truck and a handgun in the area they believe was thrown from the vehicle.

Anyone who knows where Clarida may be is asked to call police at (910) 343-3609(910) 343-3609 or text-a-tip to Tip708.
