WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – More charges have been filed against validated gang members in the City of Wilmington.
Both William Point and Joshua Gore received new charges for selling heroin in 2012.
Point was arrested March 12, 2014 on attempted murder charges.
According to Linda Rawley, public information officer with the Wilmington Police Department, Point and Gore were arrested for conspiring to sell heroin on October 22, 2012 near New Hanover High School.
Rawley said that at that time, Point was placed in the WPD's Focus Deterrence Initiative where law enforcement tries to keep young gang members out of trouble.
Rawley explained that the heroin charges were not going to be held against Point unless he committed another crime. When the suspect was charged with attempted murder March 12, the old heroin charges were added to his record.
Joshua Gore was shot near New Hanover High School on March 11, 2014, one day before Point was arrested. Police have said the two incidents are related.
Rawley said both suspects are validated gang members and are currently being held in the New Hanover County Jail.
Both are charged with selling heroin, conspiracy to sell or deliver heroin, and possession with intent to sell, manufacture or distribute heroin.
