BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A fire tore through a home outside of Shallotte Thursday afternoon causing serious damage. Investigators said the fire was intentionally set.
The fire happened at 363 Long Circle east of Shallotte. The Civietown Fire Department responded to the fire, but could not extinguish the fire before the house was considered a total loss according to Chief Mark Hewett.
The Brunswick County Investigation Task Force charged 49-year-old Lisa Watts Stillwell with second degree arson for intentionally setting fire to the home. Investigative reports show that Delinda Helms was living at the home that was set on fire.
Hewett said two people inside the home are able to get out safely without injury, but one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.
Stillwell is in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $50,000 bond.
