BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WECT) – Medical examiners have identified a body found on Bald Head Island March 17 as that of Adam Muhammad, according to Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove.
Muhammad, 22, was last seen leaving work at the Yacht Basin Eatery in Southport Friday, February 14.
The body was found March 17 around 7 a.m. at the number seven beach access near the marina on Bald Head Island.
The cause of death is still undetermined, but the autopsy revealed no bullet wounds or traumatic injuries.
In order to positively ID the body, examiners compared teeth from the body with dental records from a local orthodontist who worked on Muhammad in 2005.
Adam's mother, Aleyah Muhammad is saddened by the news of Muhammad's passing, but said she is glad to have closure.
"My heart is relieved that I know what happened and I appreciate everybody who attempted in the search," said Aleyah. "But I still want to know who did this."
At last check, the case is still under investigation and detectives with the Southport Police Department will continue to interview leads.
Aleyah said she plans to have an Islamic Graveside Committal for Adam at Northwood Cemetery in Southport, though a date has not yet been set. Adam will be laid to rest next Aleyah, when she eventually passes away.
Yacht Basin Eatery has offered to host a reception after the service.
