Kudos to Bobby Long and the folks at Eagle Point Golf Club for scoring a major victory by securing a 2017 PGA Tour event for Wilmington, NC. It'll be the first in this area in nearly a half century.
You don't have to be a golf fan to realize that our region is going to get a lot of attention from people all over the world who like golf and will tune in to watch. It's a chance for this region to sell itself to potential visitors.
But something else struck me about this announcement that I think is worth celebrating.
When asked how much in tax incentives were needed to secure this event which is expected to make at least a $30 million impact on the economy, organizers responded…zero…nada…none.
This was all done privately among the golf clubs, Wells Fargo and the PGA Tour.
And folks, these days that type of win seems about as rare as a hole in one on a par four.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
