WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Health Gastroenterologyand Colorectal Surgery is now offering quality colorectal care for women and men.
According to a news release from Wilmington Health, TheAmerican Cancer Society claims the best colon cancer screening method iscolonoscopy, because the provider is able to inspect the entire colon and rectum.
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and accordingto Wilmington Health, colorectal cancer is currently thesecond leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control andPrevention (CDC) says approximately 140,000 Americans are diagnosed withcolorectal cancer.
"Unfortunately patients usually do not have early symptomswith colorectal cancer, which is why we advise everyone 50 years and older toget a colonoscopy," said Gastroenterologist Matthew Mlot, MD, FACG. "Althoughcolonoscopies aren't at the top of everyone's to-do list, they have been knownto save lives."
