WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - A popular sports bar and restaurant in Wrightsville Beach will soon be getting bigger.
The Board of Alderman voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a request from the owner of Banks Channel Pub and Grille to expand the restaurant's front patio dining area. The expansion will provide enough space for 24 people to dine outside.
Some residents spoke out against the expansion, citing excess noise as a problem for those who live in the neighborhood surrounding the restaurant. Residents' concerns prompted a set of conditions for the expansion voted on by the Board of Alderman.
Conditions include no live music or televisions allowed outdoors and the restaurant must stop seating outside by 10 p.m. each night and the area must be closed at 11 p.m.
Some neighbors also complained about loud noises generated from glass bottles being dumped into a dumpster late at night.
As a third condition, town leaders instructed the owner of the restaurant to work with the town manager to address those concerns and develop a new schedule for outside trash and recycling dumping.
The board reserves the right to revisit or even revoke the applicant's request in the future, in the event that a problem with noise persists.
