SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – A little more than five months after he was hired, the City Manager of Southport has been given a $10,000 raise for "doing a good job."

The Board of Alderman voted unanimously at its monthly meeting last week to raise Kerry McDuffie's salary from $75,000 to $85,000.

McDuffie signed his contract to begin work with the City of Southport in October 2013.

"He's a good man and he's doing a good job," Mayor Robert Howard said. "He's underpaid for the work he's been doing."

According to his contract, the Board of Alderman was scheduled to review and evaluate McDuffie's performance within six months from the date of employment.
