A concerned mother's call leads police to find her daughter's body in a shed in her backyard. The young woman's killer remains loose tonight. More >>
STOW, OH (WOIO) -
A small memorial is building outside of Michelle Johnson's home.
Two days after her body was found in a shed behind a Stow duplex on Maplepark Drive, the scene is still taped off with an officer in front.
The 21-year old was found under a pile of blankets.
Stow officers went to the home after Johnson's mother called them saying she had not heard from her daughter and was worried.
"There was definitely trauma to the body, substantial trauma that leads us to the conclusion it was a homicide," said Chief Louis Dirker, Stow Police.
The chief says important evidence was discovered inside the home.
"There was some evidence of blood inside the residence and things of that nature and we called the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to help us to conduct the actual crime scene work," Chief Louis Dirker added.
Police are now working on background issues trying to get a idea with whom Johnson was associated with, where she was last seen and who she may have been with. They have also started the interview process of the investigation trying to get a handle of what may have happened on that quiet street.
"We interviewed the roommate, tried to get some information from her and we put together a timeline from her story and now we're looking at possible relationships, boyfriends and things of that nature," said Chief Louis Dirker.
According to the autopsy, Johnson died from sharp force injuries to the neck and her death has been ruled is homicide.
Her neighbors are horrified to know someone left her lifeless body in a shed.
"This is a shame, I don't know what else to say it's terrible," said a neighbor.
