WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The PGA Tour has scheduled a Tuesday teleconference at which time it will announce the 2017 Wells Fargo Championship will be held at Eagle Point Golf Club.
The Charlotte Observer reported the venue change as well as an extension with Wells Fargo to keep the tournament at Quail Hollow in Charlotte through 2019.
Officials at Eagle Point Golf Club could not comment on the announcement.
Quail Hollow Club will host the 2017 PGA Championship, meaning the Wells Fargo Tournament needed a temporary home.
Eagle Point was ranked 67th on the Golf Digest "Top 100" list for the 2013-14 season and third overall in the state of North Carolina.
2017 will mark the first time a PGA Tour event has been played in Wilmington since the Azalea Open was held at Cape Fear Country Club in 1971.
The Wells Fargo Championship annually draws one of the best fields in golf and is the final tune-up for the Players Championship. The 2014 event is scheduled for May 1-4.
