The race started at Wrightsville Beach and ended in the Mayfaire Town Center.
This year, the winner of the half marathon can call themselves the state champion allowing for bigger prizes.
Mayfaire businesses also saw a boost in business with the additional volume of people.
"With the race and St. Patty's day we've seen a huge boost," said Steve Braun of the Fox and the Hound, "we had kids coming in yesterday from the race and runners coming in yesterday to carboload!"
According to officials at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, only one person was transported to the hospital with race-related health issues.
