BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Brunswick County man is going to trial on Monday, suing the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

This is a case we've been following for years now.

George Cooper was shot 5 times at his home in Brunswick County back in 2007.

Deputies responded to a disturbance call at his house and he claims officers didn't identify themselves.

He had an unloaded gun in his hand when he answered the door.

A jury later found him not guilty of felony assault with a deadly weapon on an officer in this case.

Now, he's suing the officers & the county for damages. Cooper says the injuries he sustained from the shooting caused him to retire from work.

The case is being heard in Raleigh on Monday morning. It's expected to last a few days.
