BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A motorcyclist has been treated and released from the hospital after a high speed crash in Brunswick County.

Trooper Wheeler with the N.C. State Highway Patrol says Justin Velez, 27, from Fayetteville was traveling between 90-100 mph when his motorcycle crashed into a slower moving car.

The impact caused Velez to be thrown from his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 17 near the Hwy. 74/76 split in Leland.

Velez suffered minor bruising but no broken bones. Authorities say Velez was wearing a DOT approved helmet which may have saved his life.

He's been charged with reckless driving.

The accident is still under investigation but authorities do not believe that alcohol or drugs were involved.
