NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office is beefing up security for Friday night's Best Foot Forward Talent Show.
Thousands are expected to pack Brogden Hall on the campus of New Hanover High School for the county-wide talent show.
The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office will provide metal detectors and extra officers to tighten up security for the event according to Sergeant Jerry Brewer. Brewer said there will also be a no re-entry policy for the event.
"Everyone loves to see the kids perform. It's a great thing. We want to make sure the parents and kids are safe," Brewer said.
Brewer said a week of violence near the high school campus led to even tighter safety measures.
"There is a heightened level of security now due to the past events, and that does play into the factor," Brewer said.
School administration and the sheriff's office were in agreement to step up the security, add metal detectors at the entrances, and to achieve their goal of safety and security.
Brewer said the extra officers will remain at the school until the event is over and those in attendance have left.
