WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - With storm cleanup complete City Council voted Tuesday night to allocate an additional $375,000 for storm debris removal.
According to city staffers, now that the work is complete the final estimation with the addition of the $375,000 will be approximately $1.8 million. They say that the state is expected to reimburse 75 percent of this total cost.
This is the second increase since the original cleanup estimation, with the previous total being $1.4 million.
City Council members have voiced their displeasure that the county will not be paying for part of the city debris removal costs.
"We're already paying county and city taxes and we should get the full benefit of what we pay into our county taxes and I don't think our city taxpayers are. I'm disappointed and I hope there's a change of heart over there," Councilman Charlie Rivenbark said.
