Thieves steal $700 worth of gym equipment from BG school

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green Police need help tracking down whoever stole gym equipment from local children.

Basketballs, yoga mats and about $700 worth of equipment has been stolen from the Wood Lane School's gym. And it couldn't have come at a worse time. The Special Olympics, funded almost entirely by donations, are going to be held at the gym in two weeks.

Staff members noticed something was wrong in February, but just reported the theft. Their gym is actually located inside the Bowling Green Community Center. It's normally locked, but they rent the gym out to several organizations.

Now Wood Lane officials are trying to figure out who would steal from them.

"I was pretty disappointed and actually quite sad," said Superintendent Melanie Stretchberry. "While the monetary value of this equipment is not extreme, I mean, who does that?"

Now they will have to spend additional money to buy new equipment. They hope to have everything running smoothly before the Special Olympics begin on March 21.

Anyone with information on the robbery should contact Bowling Green Police at 419-352-8775.
