WPD busts female suspect on multiple heroin charges

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Officers with the Wilmington Police Department arrested a female suspect on multiple drug charges after seizing over 100 bags of heroin from her home.

The residence off Kubeck Court in the Winterwood Complex was the focus of a long investigation after police received multiple complaints about drug sales and gang members hanging around.

Police arrested Zakiyya Murphy after finding 117 bags of heroin, ammunition, and over $1000 in cash in her home.

Murphy is facing multiple drug charges including possession of heroin, maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance, and possessing a controlled substance within 1000 ft of a child car center.

Police also arrested Torrance Burns, at the same location. Burns was taken into custody Thursday and charged with attempted murder, first degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling in connection to the murder of Raequan Rouse.

Police are also searching for Kejuan Smith who is wanted in connection to the heroin bust on Kubeck Court.
