RALEIGH, NC (WECT) - The Department of Public Safety and the State Highway Patrol is proud to announce "Litter Free NC."
According to the Department of Public Safety, "Litter Free NC" is a statewide anti-litter campaign designed to educate the public and generate awareness about the effects of litter in hopes of reducing the amount of litter in our state.
While the "Litter Free NC" campaign will be an on-going initiative, a heavy educational and enforcement program will be conducted during the week of March 10 - 17.
Officials say troopers across the state will be diligently looking for those violators who choose to carelessly throw and scatter litter as well as those who fail to properly secure their load.
The State Highway Patrol cited 497 drivers for littering and 545 divers for unsecured loads in 2013.
