WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Police are searching for a man who broke into a drink machine and wrecked a car while running from police early Friday morning.

WPD received reports Thursday night of a man trying to break into a drink machine at Neuwirth Motors off College Road.

When officers arrived, the suspect fled in a car, but police decided not to pursue because of the rainy conditions.

Later in the night, police received reports of a car that had wrecked in the 5100 block of Oriole Drive. When police arrived, the car was empty.

Officers ran the license plate and contacted the owner of the vehicle. The owner said that Daniel Gibides had borrowed the car.

Gibides has two prior warrants for a pair of felony breaking and enterings last month.

If you have any information on Gibides whereabouts, please contact the Wilmington Police Department at (910) 343-3600.
