WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Hundreds of breast cancer survivors who were at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Wilmington last weekend understand the importance of monthly breast exams.

They know that early detection can save lives and are living proof of just that.

"I hope they find a cure so that the next generation doesn't have to suffer like mine did," said survivor Alana Adams.

Use this time to call a friend and remind them to do that important self breast exam. Men can do it too, since men also get breast cancer.

WECT also sends monthly reminders on smart phones. Text the words "Pink Pack" to 91066 to receive a monthly reminder via text message. Message and data rates may apply. You can text STOP at any time to cancel your subscription, text HELP for more information, or call 877.571.0774877.571.0774 for support.

The Pink Packs are sponsored by New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Enclosed are illustrations that show you how to do the exam. Click here to learn how to have one sent to you in the mail and for more about the program: http://bit.ly/1gVfkVa.
