First Alert Weather: wet, windy storm to impact area through Friday - much nicer weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A large and intensifying area of low pressure will move up the coast bringing soaking rains and windy conditions through Friday. Much more settled weather is expected this weekend, though, as a high pressure system builds into the area.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Expect windswept rain. New rain amounts around 1 inch are possible. North and northeasterly winds will frequently gust more than 30mph inland and more than 40mph at the coast. Breakers of 6 to 9 feet may promote beach erosion and tidal flooding.

FRIDAY: Expect clouds and additional periods of windswept rain. Total rain amounts of 1 to 2 inches (locally 2.5 inches) are likely. Gusts will continue at speeds similar to those of Thursday night but from a slightly different direction - from the north or northwest.

WEEKEND: Looks real nice! Leftover moisture may contribute to some fog or a straggling shower early Saturday. Otherwise, expect partly cloudy skies for the weekend. Temperatures will grow to more seasonable levels, too, with highs in the 60s likely for both days.
