BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Homelessness is becoming a major issue in some parts of southeastern North Carolina.
There are no county-operated or funded shelters in Brunswick County, so one man is making it his mission to help the homeless.
Allen Hulin is a missionary for the homeless at Sonrise Baptist Church in Southport.
He's spent the past two years planning his move from Lexington, NC.
Hulin says he was called by God to open the first homeless shelter in Brunswick County, with room for a cafeteria, bed rooms, and a living space.
Allen and his wife Kelly uprooted their lives and left their jobs and family to move here and follow God's will for their lives.
"How blessed are we that we have a house that we can lay our head down at night," said Hulin. "Our mission is to help the people who don't have that. I just thank God for using me. I'm nothing without him."
Hulin is still trying to raise enough money to open the shelter. For more information, or to make a donation, email Allen at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (336) 442-2360(336) 442-2360.
