Charlotte firefighters and emergency crews responded to a south Charlotte school after several students complained of being sick while playing outside.
The incident was reported at Quail Hollow Middle School around noon Wednesday, according to a spokesman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Eleven students complained of feeling sick, specifically nausea, during activity time on the football field, and school officials called for authorities.
Those eleven students were later picked up by their parents.
"I'm very relieved, and the school was very quick to give us a phone call and let us know what was going on, so very thankful for the staff at Quail Middle," Crystal Bridges said.
Her child was one of the eleven, and while Bridges was nervous at first, she says her child appears to be okay.
Maurice Daniels came to get his daughter, who said she felt as though she had breathed in a strange substance.
"She says she's fine," Daniels said. "She just wants to go home and lay down."
Firefighters and medic crews are investigating, but no cause of the illness has been found.
The school is operating on normal hours with a regular class schedule.
