A train derailment last June blocked Love Grove residents from entering or leaving the community.
The petition Love Grove residents are using to try and convince Wilmington City Council to add a secondary access road.
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The residents of the Love Grove community have begun a petition to the Wilmington City Council to request a second access road into the community.
Residents have concerns about the ability of emergency responders to access the community when the main entrance becomes blocked.
Last June, six CSX train cars derailed and cut off the residents from the rest of the city. Residents were hoping the accident would emphasis the importance of adding a second entrance.
City council members met with local and state regulators back in December to discuss the possibility of constructing a bridge the would link Love Grove with One Tree Way, next to Screen Gems Studios off North 23rd St.
The estimated cost of the project would be $5 million.
