WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An unusually cold air mass will remain entrenched over the area this week. At the same time, storm systems will provide moisture for showers. For the weekend: a breakthrough! A milder high pressure system will build in for brighter, warmer weather.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Expect cloudy cold conditions to persist with temperatures likely hovering in the lower and middle 30s and winds remaining northerly near 10 or 15mph. Clouds may deliver patches of light rain or freezing rain at times.
WEDNESDAY: Expect continued clouds and patchy areas of rain or drizzle. Temperatures will struggle just to get to highs in the lower and middle 40s and northerly winds will continue to add an extra cold "bite" to the situation.
THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: A storm system will travel along the Carolina Coast and bring a high chance of showers in this time. This could be a nice pre-growing season soaker! Temperatures will likely reach the 40s Thursday and 50s Friday.
WEEKEND: Tranquil weather is in the forecast for Friday night and Saturday with a high pressure system likely to be in control. Expect lows in the 40s Friday night and highs in the 60s to near perhaps lower 70s Saturday. Sunday: partly cloudy, very slight shower chance, 60s.
