WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – Students from across southeastern North Carolina gathered Monday to have a say on what's happening in Washington.
Congressman Mike McIntyre invited each high school in the district to send a junior to his annual youth summit at Southeastern Community College in Whiteville.
The lawmaker has hosted the event for the past 13 years to get input from young people and to take that feedback to the nation's capitol.
"This is a chance to listen to our young people and to have open discussion with them and to try to inspire and challenge them," McIntyre said.
Topics at this year's summit included drugs and alcohol, cyber bullying and overuse of social media.
McIntyre explained he hopes students will use their experience at the summit to help make a difference in church, community and school.
