Hammerheads announce three returning players

News release from the Wilmington Hammerheads:

Wilmington, NC – Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the return of three players for the 2014 USL PRO regular season. Midfielder William Heaney, defender Shaun Utterson and forward Mickael Oliveira will all be returning for their second consecutive season with the Hammerheads.

"I'm pleased to be back and I am looking forward to seeing the guys again," said Heaney. "I missed Wilmington this off season and I am looking forward to hit the ground running. Being a foreigner, I am so thankful for how helpful people in the Wilmington community have been to me over the past years."

A native of Maryport, Heaney made his debut with the Hammerheads during the 2013 USL PRO regular season after previously training with the club in 2012 as a trialist. The midfielder tallied one goal and one assist last season in 14 matches. During the off season, Heaney traveled overseas to play with Gretna FC of the Scottish Football League and Workington AFC.

Utterson returns to the Hammerheads after off season play with Blyth Spartans AFC of the Northern Premier League Premier Division in Northumberland. A former player for the University of North Carolina Wilmington, the defender made his official USL PRO debut with the Hammerheads in 2013; making 20 appearances.

"I am delighted to be back," said Utterson. "Really looking forward to getting into preseason and gelling with the returning and new players. Wilmington is a great place to play football and I am very much excited to return to Legion Stadium."

Oliveira made eight appearances overall during his professional debut with the Hammerheads in 2013 after being officially added to the roster mid-season. The Belgian forward tallied three goals and one assist before wrapping up his first season with the club.

"I am very excited to come back to Wilmington for my second season," said Oliveira. "Seeing the fantastic fans that we have, I am excited to play a full season this time around."

Wilmington Hammerheads FC kick off their 2014 USL PRO regular season on Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. versus the Harrisburg City Islanders at Legion Stadium.
