SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – A new emergency services substation may be on the way to Southport.
Town leaders are currently comparing costs and evaluating the feasibility of building a new substation to house fire, police, and emergency services.
Town leaders have proposed building the new facility in the Rivermist Community, where leaders say the population is growing.
If approved, officials believe the presence of a new substation could help cut down response time during emergencies and save people money that live in that area from fire insurance fees.
The Board of Alderman will review the proposal at its next meeting in March.
