WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) - Southeastern Community College President Dr. Kathy Matlock has announced that she will retire this November.
Matlock has been the president of SCC since 2004 and has oversaw the expansion of the campus to 240 acres, a successful reaccreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), designation as a Tree Campus USA, and numerous other construction and renovation projects around campus.
In a statement to college employees, Matlock said "During the last decade, I have had the honor to work with you, a caring and dedicated group of educators. From my first days, you made me feel like a part of this wonderful tradition that we call the SCC family.
We have supported each other through births, deaths, health crises and personal tragedies. We have survived the budget highs and lows, the chaotic nature of bureaucracy, and the multitude of changes that have impacted students and employees. Through all of this you have kept the main focus on serving our students and community. I thank you for everything you do every day.
For my family and myself, we will always have SCC and you in our hearts."
