TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WECT) - Students at the University of North Carolina Wilmington are looking into the possibility of creating paddling trails in Topsail Beach.
According to officials in the beach town, the students received a grant to begin working on a study to see where the trails would go and what kind of information about the environment would be posted along the trail for paddlers to read.
"It would be comparable to a walking trail except on water," said Paul Flowe. "What we are trying to do is see what the Topsail Beach locals want, as well as tourists, and whatever they really want is what we are going to be pushing."
Flowe is in charge of creating a support group for the project. He said the group will meet for the first time on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Topsail Beach Town Hall. Anyone interested is allowed to attend the meeting.
This is just a study and no plan has been created.
