WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A group of Cape Fear Community College students will make a special presentation Tuesday night on the history of slavery in New Hanover County.

For the past nine months, the students and faculty have worked with the New Hanover County Register of Deeds office to research and establish a searchable database of slave deeds in New Hanover County.

The project has totaled 1,500 records and will allow modern descendants of slaves to trace their heritage back as far as the 1700s.

The presentation starts tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. in the New Hanover County Public Library in the Hanover Room on the 3rd floor. Admission will be free and it will open to the public.
