WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A free expungement clinic will be offered at the New Hanover County Library located in downtown Wilmington on Wednesday, June 18 at 2:00 p.m. for people with one non-violent or non-sexual felony on their record.

The clinic will be a chance for lawyers to collect personal information to see if the attendees are eligible to have the felony wiped.

Convicted felons must have been clean for 15 years since their original conviction. If the person was under 18 at the time of the conviction, they must have been clean for 5 years.

District Attorney Ben David says this will help make a fresh start for those who need it and will get them back out into the work force.

Again, Wednesday's clinic is mostly information gathering. The expungement process for those who clear the background work will happen at another clinic on October 16, 17.
