CORDOVA, TN -

(WMC-TV) - An animal is on the loose in one Mid-South neighborhood and a warning has been issued for pets and children.

The word is out about a predator in the Cordova neighborhood of Carrollwood Lakes. Something nocturnal is climbing six-foot fences and killing dogs in their own backyards.

"I'm just going out in the backyard when she's out there especially at night," said dog owner Scott Campbell.

Caroline Davis came home more than a week ago to find Missy, her Springer Spaniel, missing.

"I found Missy laying on the ground, and I reached down, and she was dead and her neck had pretty much torn."

Her Bull Terrier lost a piece of its ear.

Two more dogs were killed in the yard that backs up to Davis' yard. Those residents say the dogs were not eaten just killed.

In an email sent by the Carrollwood Lakes Association, residents were informed that a wildlife company had been contacted. Also, residents were warned that children could be at risk since the dogs who were mauled were not small dogs.

Some residents have even seen foxes in the area.

"Running straight down the street trotting along then sprinting along," said resident Manfred Filsinger.

Residents believe it is doubtful a fox did the mauling. One man, who did not want to talk on camera, said a bobcat was spotted in the area several months ago.

Residents of Carrollwood Lakes are cautioned to keep an eye on their children and their pets, especially at night when the attacks seem to happen.
