Man pleads guilty to hospital stabbing

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A man pleaded guilty Monday in connection to the 2013 stabbing of a woman pregnant with his child.

Josef Anthony Randolph, 29, was sentenced to 5-7years in the Department of Adult Correction after he pleaded guilty to stabbing the woman carrying his child, and assaulting medical responders.

In April of 2013, Randolph stabbed a pregnant, 20-year-old woman in the neck while she was visiting her mother at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The unborn child was not injured during the attack.

Randolph's sentence will be followed by a 2-3 1/2 year suspended sentence which will require him to be on 3 years probation and be placed in an inpatient rehabilitative program to address his substance abuse and mental health related issues, if eligible.

Randolph pleaded guilty to with the following charges:

  • assault on medical responder (x2)
  • secret assault (on unborn child)
  • assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
