WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A simple traffic stop leads to a strange sequence of events that ends with a suspect arrested and his car stolen.
It all started when an officer for the Wilmington Police Department clocked a vehicle going 45 mph in a 25 mph zone on McRae Street Sunday afternoon.
When the vehicle stopped, the driver jumped out and ran. The officer chased the suspect, Mikkail Roland, and caught him on Anderson Street.
After returning to McRae St., the suspect's car was gone. The vehicle was later discovered in the parking lot of a bar on N. 4th Street. The owner of the bar said two males jumped out the car and ran.
After searching Roland, police found marijuana and a cell phone. The cell phone rang while the police were still conducting their search and the male on the line said his phone was stolen the night before.
Roland is charged with speeding, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and possession of stolen goods.
