WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Burgwin-Wright House in downtown Wilmington is the place to be for Presidents Day celebrations.
Staff at the historic home and gardens have started a new tradition this year by welcoming guests to learn more about the history of those who've lead our nation.
The inaugural event this year focused on George Washington's home Mount Vernon. Guest speaker Jean Sherrill is the North Carolina Vice Regent of Mount Vernon Ladies Association. It was founded in 1853.
The organization took over the operations of Mount Vernon and continues to keep it open and entertaining people of all ages today.
Sherrill said she was impressed by the sold-out crowd Monday night. She said Presidents Day is a good time for everyone to take a moment and learn a little about our first president.
"If we don't bring him to life on days like this, or through our work at Mount Vernon, he could be lost forever," she said.
