A motorcyclist died after he lost control and rammed the back of a van on Interstate 10 Thursday night.
The motorcyclist was going west on I-10 near Avondale Boulevard about 7 p.m. when he tried to move around a slow-moving vehicle, a Department of Public Safety spokesman said.
The rider changed lanes at the same time as a pickup truck, causing the motorcyclist to lose control and hit the back of the van.
The spokesman said the 32-year-old Tempe man was thrown from his motorcycle.
He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.
The crash backed up westbound traffic from Dysart Road to the Loop 101 interchange for more than three hours.
