WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Emergency crews responded to a multi-car accident Friday morning on the I-40 bridge at mile marker 414 heading east of Wilmington.

According to highway patrol, an off-duty Wilmington police officer, driving on the I-40 bridge, slipped on black ice and crashed on the bridge.

Two Wilmington police officers, and a Pender County Sheriff's Deputy, were at the scene assisting the officer.

Officials say a black BMW was traveling on I-40, heading east, and slipped on black ice as well and hit the Pender Deputy's car.

No one was hurt and the scene is cleared at this time.

The driver of the black BMW has been charged with speeding in dangerous conditions.
