WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Several traffic signals in the Wilmington area are out of commission due to power outages.
The intersection of Oleander Drive and Independence Blvd. was one of the busiest sites that was affected Thursday.
Sergeant Mike Donelson with the Wilmington Police Department said that motorists in the area should be able to handle the roads without every stop light in-tact.
"It just takes a little bit of patience in times like this. This community goes through hurricanes. We randomly have crashes where power goes out. People know what to do," Donelson explained.
Donelson reminded drivers that when approaching an intersection without power, the vehicle that hits the area first, has the right of way.
If multiple vehicles arrive at the same time, the one that moves first automatically has the right of way. From there, each vehicle to the right of the first one to move, then has the right of way.
