UPDATE: Crews clear scene of accident involving Leland Police Officer and Sheriff Deputy

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – According to the Leland Police Department  six cars, including a Leland Police Officer, a Brunswick County Sheriff Deputy and a tractor trailer, were involved in a accident on Hwy. 74, 76 at the Hwy. 17 merge in Leland, causing the area to shutdown early Wednesday morning.

Crews with Highway Patrol, Department of Transportation, Leland Police and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office responded to the accident. 

Leland police department says no one was hurt and minor damage to both the patrol car and the Deputy's car.

All lanes are now back open. 

We also learned a Leland Police Officer was involved in accident Tuesday night while assisting another accident. The Officer pulled over on the side of Hwy 17 in Leland when another car hit the back of the patrol car. The officer was not in the car at the time.  Lt. Pierce with Leland Police department says there is significant amount of damage to the patrol car but does not know the details at this time.  

Officials are encouraging drivers to stay at home, if possible.
