NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued in response to three water main breaks that happened near the Ogden area Tuesday morning.

According to officials with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, the advisory impacts hundreds of customers in the Landfall and Middle Sound areas of Wilmington.

The precautionary boil water advisory has been issued to customers at the following addresses:

  • ALL addresses on the east side of Market Street between Gordon Road and El Ogden Road;
  • All addresses on Military Cutoff Road between Cayman Street and Market Street;
  • Portions of Landfall north of Pembroke Jones Drive;
  • Portions of Middle Sound south of Pages Creek

This boil water advisory is being issued as a precaution because periods of low or no pressure increase the potential for the introduction of bacteria into the water system.

CFPUA customers in the above described area should boil their water for one minute then allow it to cool prior to consumption or utilize another water source such as bottled water.

Consumption includes drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, food preparation, fruit and vegetable washing and the preparation of baby formula. Customers do NOT need to boil water prior to using it for showering or bathing.

According to a spokesperson for CFPUA, there is a major break near Military Cutoff and Covil Farm Roads. One lane on Military Cutoff will be closed while crews work to repair the break.

CFPUA officials believe the repair work could take all day.

A secondary break is located 200 yards north of Covil Farms, near Paradise Way and Military Cutoff.

According to CFPUA, a third break is located in the Middle Sound Loop Road area. CFPUA said it's restored water using the nano-filtration system and will work on this break once they know more about the break at Covil Farms.
