First Alert Weather: Mild Sunday, wintry weather possible Tuesday

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - We can look forward to a dry and seasonable Sunday and Monday before a complex winter storm moves in Tuesday.

MONDAY: Dry and seasonable with highs in the mid to upper 50's.  Clouds will increase during the day.  Lows will be near 40 in the morning but drop into the low 30's Monday night behind the next Arctic cold front.

NEXT WINTER STORM HIGHLIGHTS: A strengthening, but complex storm will pull out of the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday.  An Arctic airmass should be in place early in the period, which could set the stage for a wintry mix of precipitation on Tuesday afternoon and possibly Tuesday night.  Temperatures early Tuesday will likely fall into the low and mid 30's with the onset of precipitation.  A significant snow storm is likely for central and eastern North Carolina with pure rain likely to our south.  We will be in the transition zone.  It is too early to think about ice or snow accumulations, but it is a possibility especially if you live away from the coast and northwest of Wilmington.  Lows Tuesday night bottom out near or just below freezing.

On Wednesday milder air moves in and any frozen precipitation will quickly change to rain from southeast early in the morning to northwest by noon.  Rain will continue much of the day with highs back into the low 40's as low pressure moves up the east coast.  Showers continue on Thursday with highs in the low 50's.
