WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – The first Friday of February is recognized as "Red Dress Day" to raise awareness of the number one killer of women: heart disease.

Friday afternoon, hundreds of women attended the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation's Red Dress Project luncheon at the Wilmington Convention Center.

Since the first Red Dress Lunch in 2006, the NHRMC Foundation has raised more than $240,000 to reduce the incidence of heart attack in local women and help women at risk for cardiovascular disease.

The event also raises awareness in our community about heart disease and its signs and symptoms.
